Mission:
Back in Our Hands Birth and Wellness is devoted to improving birth outcomes for Black mothers and infants, by providing access to culturally congruent, restorative, maternal health care, creating a safe, and equitable birth environment, informed patients, and thriving families in Trenton, New Jersey.
Vision:
At Back In Our Hands Birth and Wellness, we envision a future where every Black mother and infant in Trenton flourishes in a nurturing environment that honors our cultural heritage. We strive to be a beacon of hope and empowerment, fostering a community where maternal health disparities are eradicated, access to comprehensive care is universal, and every family experiences the joy of a safe, dignified, and healthy birth journey. Together, we will create a legacy of wellness that uplifts generations, ensuring that all mothers and infants thrive.
Who we are:
Back in Our Hands Birth and Wellness provides access to restorative, culturally-congruent, perinatal and family wellness services, inclusive of traditional Midwifery care, Doula care, Perinatal Mental Health Support, Childbirth Education, Lactation Support, Family Support Services, and Birth Justice Advocacy!
Recognizing, and paying homage to birthing hands of our ancestors, we endeavor to restore Black maternal health by returning our care to, and through Black hands.
We are uniquely designed, and positioned to operate as a culturally congruent, and community aligned, free standing birthing center and “hub,” offering access to other impacted lead perinatal practitioners and organizations to offer their respective services at Back in Our Hands.
Our unique model of care represents Ujima, collective work and responsibility to dismantle the system that perpetuates the disparities in Black maternal health.
